There is a situation still makes server users unsatisfied, which is Windows Server 2000/2003/2008 Computer Disk Manager can not help them extend volume to unallocated space whereas the low disk space alert always pop up. Windows Server 2008 built-in Disk Manager can only extend partition if there is contiguous unallocated space behind the partition. However, Windows Server 2003/2000 has no such function, even the unallocated space behind the partition; we still have no idea to add the unallocated space if only rely on the built-in Disk Manager.

So, we turn to the third party tool - server partition magic, it works as its name. As we all know a truth partition magic can not work on Windows Server OSs all the time. AOMEI Partition Assistant Server Edition, based on its basic & needed functions, also added the advanced features by the developer. It is the acknowledged partition magic server alternative.

  1. We ignore the installation guide as it shows the easily wizard after free download the setup.exe. Run Partition Assistant Server, the local computer disks/partitions with the unallocated space info will be automatically analyzed and shows out like the following screenshot.

  2. As we all know, the unallocated space is behind the D: partition, before extend C: system partition to add the unallocated space, we need move the unallocated space behind C: partition. (Note: Windows 2008 has resize function but without move function). Position the mouse pointer on D: partition and drag it rightwards as following:

    Move unallocated space

  3. According to the above info, unallocated space moved successfully, then our leading task is extending the C: partition to the following unallocated space. Do not be surprised at its working method, which is one of the highlights especially given. Click C:, drag the double headed arrow at right side to right to add the unallocated space.

Drag double headed arrow to right to add unallocated space

  4. After the above steps, that does not mean extend C: partition on windows server 2003/2008 is accomplished. The changes are listed in the "Pending Operation" box at the sidebar and waiting to take effect. This is also one of highlights here. We can preview the changes before clicking "Apply" to proceed with the operations. "Discard", "Redo", "Undo" are also provided to users for cancelling the wrong works.
