Question from Yahoo answers

"How to extend the Windows 2003 system partition (C drive) without shutting it down?"

"I have a Windows 2003 Standard server composed of two hard drives. There are one partition for my C: drive of 20gb and 60gb for data D: partition. I tried using Diskpart.exe but apparently you cannot extend a partition that is your primary system or boot partition. Then I bought Partition Magic, but it does not work with Windows Server OS.

Additional: I don't want to restart my Server and shut down the service."

You can find this question here. Just as the "Best Answer" says, AOMEI Partition Assistant Server Edition really can solve the question perfectly, but the only bad thing, on a second thought, is no detailed tutorial, which is most useful for users who are not proficient in computer. Therefore, I will complete the task without Partition Magic or shutting Server off and restarting computer in this article.

Take my Windows 2003 for example, there are two partitions on my basic disk. The system boot partition C drive is only 21GB and the data partition D is 95GB as the following screenshot:

Disk Management

Because there is much available free space on D partition, I want to extend C drive to 45GB.

How to extend my NTFS system partition C drive with AOMEI Partition Assistant?

Note: To ensure a smooth and successful operation process and keep data intact, I suggest you follow the tips before extending system partition C drive as followings:

* Close all other applications including the antivirus software and the firewall.

* If possible, do a defragment for all of partition and backup your important data with disk copy wizard.

* The more data is on the partition, the more time it will take. Please do not shut off or restart your computer directly, you need to be patient to wait.

Step by step tutorial:

Step1: Close all applications which are running on D partition in order to no reboot.

Step2: Launch AOMEI Partition Assistant Server Edition. Similar to Windows built-in Disk Management, it will display all-around information of disk and each drive.
