Diskpart Failed to Extend the Volume and How to Extend Volume

Diskpart failed to extend the volume

When attempting to extend system partition Server 2003 with diskpart command-line utility, it started giving me the following error message: "diskpart failed to extend the volume. Please make sure the volume is valid for extending" Why can't I extend the volume?

The requirements for diskpart command-line utility

  1. The volume must be NTFS file system. If it is FAT or FAT32, you should convert it to NTFS.

  2. With regard to basic disks, the unallocated space must be behind the partition needed to extend.

  3. Extension merely supports data volumes. It prohibits boot or system partition from being extended. That's the reason why the diskpart failed to extend the volume on my system partition Server 2003.

  4. The partition where the system page file is stored is unavailable to extend unless the page file is moved to a partition which you would not like to extend.

Others: In terms of Windows 2000/xp, you are unable to extend dynamic disk simple volume which was first created on a basic disk. The limitation was cancelled in Windows Server 2003.

As mentioned above, there are so many limitations in diskpart command-line utility that you can't extend volume easily, then how to extend volume without receiving the error information "diskpart failed to extend the volume"?
